What is intellectual disability?
About half a million Australians have an intellectual disability. Usually present from birth, intellectual disability can also result from an injury or illness in childhood. Many people also experience additional disability, such as speech, hearing, physical disability, or autism.

What is autism?
At least 1 in 100 people in Australia are on the autism spectrum. Autism is associated with differences in social interactions, focused interests (clinically referred to as restricted interests), repetitive patterns of behaviour and sensory sensitivities.
